With the ever-expanding armamentarium of drugs and drug therapies available, rational pharmacotherapy today is a complex art. At the forefront of this problem is the need to provide the most effective drug regimen whilst avoiding any adverse drug reactions. From the first point of concept to establishment on the market, monitoring the safety of a drug is critical to a drug's development and commercialisation.
